365 Supporters Group
Membership keeps the Commons special
Great Torrington Commons is a manged by a small group of staff, a board of volunteer trustees, a group of volunteers known as ‘Friends’ of the Commons, and a group of volunteers that help the Ranger with various duties throughout the seasons.
We are a registered charity, relying on donations, grants & funds, and proceeds from our fundraising events. Managing the Commons and keeping the environment safe costs money.
We have created a membership programme called 365 Supporters Group. By joining us and paying just £2 per month, you can help us to maintain and improve the Commons. Above all, you will help us to preserve the wild and natural beauty of the Commons, while keeping it accessible to all.
What's in it for you!

Other benefits
A free copy of the Tree Trail map. We have an A3 trifold tree map that easily fits in to your pocket. It shows a walk on the Commons which includes most of the trees and shrubs found in Britain that are considered to be native. The walk is approximately 4km in length and sensible footwear is advised, there are some steep paths and steps and depending on the weather it could be muddy. It is a circular walk that starts and ends at the Old Bowling Green. The walk can be completed on one go or you can do it in sections, there are paths along the way that lead back to the Old Bowling Green.
There are 55 different specimens, on the back of the map is a picture of their leaves, fruits and flowers where applicable. This will help with identification.
There are also some non-native trees such as Spanish Chestnut and Monterey Pine to name a few. These are listed on the map.
Notification of special events to be held on the Commons.
After Covid 19 restrictions have been lifted and life has returned to normal, we will be advertising events in the Crier, on Facebook and on our website. As a member you will get prior notification of these events.
Guided walks. As a member you will be invited along to guided walks. These walks go through different parts of the Commons, bluebells and wild garlic in the springtime, trees in bloom and flowering meadows in the summertime, mushroom spotting amongst the fallen leaves in the autumn, and crisp frosty morning walks in the winter.
Miles of countryside to roam around. Of course, the Commons makes this is available to everyone for free , but as a member you’ll feel proud to know that it’s because of your support that the Commons is such a lovely place to visit.
