Weʼre raising £20,000 to Save our Monument on Great Torrington Commons
Following the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815, the widows of Great Torrington and surrounding parishes raised funds to erect a monument on the Castle Hill side of Great Torrington Commons in memory of their loved ones who died during the battle.
This Grade II listed monument has been standing proudly, an iconic structure on the commons since 1886. Unfortunately, the monument is now starting to crumble and needs £20,000 to bring it back to its former glory.
BIG Al Mitchell is leading a fundraising campaign to raise the funds needed to restore the monument for future generations to enjoy.
Celia Lancaster from the Town Hall has setup a Just Giving page to collect donations to help with the work required to save the Monument.
You can find out more about the plan to restore the monument and give at donation at the Just Giving page here https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/saveourmonument?utm_id=106
As always, we appreciate your support and help, keeping the commons safe and accessible is our goal.
